Handing over of donations from HAIX and Steinbrink Marketing, September 2019
Thanks to the dedication of avid supporter of the EMNS, Thorsten Kräling, the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary received a generous donation from HAIX. The game guards of the EMNS were supplied with brand new, high quality Black Eagle Haix boots, as also multi-functional socks. The first game guard station received their boots in July 2019. After the usual walking-in period, the boots have now become trusty companions for the game guards and have seen a few hundred kilometres in the past two months.

Furthermore, the EMNS received a generous donation from Sebastian Steinbrink (STEINBRINK MARKETING) after he visited the Erongo Mountains in April 2019. The printed T-shirts Sebastian donated to game guards were also handed over to the first game guard station and are being worn proudly ever since.

Donations like these are always a welcome acknowledgement for the important service of the game guards, who often spend every day in the bush on foot patrols. Not least, this gear is important for the game guards to act out their work.

Game Ranger training course - Radio use and orientation
On Monday, 25 June 2018, a training course for Game Rangers from the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary was conducted on Otjompaue. In total 11 employees from the farms Ameib, Eileen (Remaining Extent of Farm Eileen), Hooggenoeg and Otjompaue partook. The training was presented by Otmar, and supported by Hagen.
The course emphasised on the correct use of radio devices as well as orientation in terrain. The proper structure of radio messages was practiced, as well as the judging of distances, constructing a sketch of the respective operational areas of the rangers, and orientation according to the position of the sun. The practical application of the learned theory was an important part of the training. The enthusiastic participation of all involved, and the subsequent positive feedback, show the necessity of such training to strengthen the self-confidence and enhance the operational capability of the game rangers!
The full-day training was concluded with handing out of uniforms and other equipment to the game rangers. Lunch and drinks, as well equipment necessary for the course was provided by Hubert in trusted fashion. Thanks again for this once again! This training day should not be a one-time occurrence, but will be continued with further training, like for example First Aid and Self Defence. Last but not least, the newly learned skills now have to be practiced and improved.

The grey ghost of the mountain - Conservation through hunting in the EMNS (Video)

A video that was filmed in the Erongo Mountains with the support of hunter Henrik Lott and filmmaker Sebastian Steinbrink-Minami to show-case the work of conservation through hunting in the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary and through the Erongo Verzeichnis. Enjoy!

This Video won the first prize in the “International Hunting- and Naturefilm Competition” at the 2018 Dortmund Jagd&Hund; Hunting Show - we consider this a great achievement and further a recognition that the Erongo Mountain Nature Sanctuary and the Erongo Verzeichnis is on the right track.

Unfortunately the video is only available in German at the moment.
